I’m tired as I post these, but sometimes following your dreams does get you tired. The quote images I’m showing are relevant to how I feel tonight.
I will start with “More ideas than time.” That has become a theme in my life. It can get you to spread yourself too thin sometimes, but on the other hand it’s also a sign, I think, that you’re going in the right direction!
Then there is the question of high expectations, yours and someone else’s. On the one hand, people who have made it big say that if you think big you get big; on the other hand, if you think too big but you simply can’t push yourself and your resources to achieve that level of success, you’re in for a lot of frustration and exhaustion. I’d be curious what you think about this, how you negociate these waters.
Then there’s the picture of how it’s supposed to be. As in how your life, overall, is supposed to be. That can be an obstacle to happiness, too. A big one, in fact. And yet some people set goals and are able to journey through life according to plan. Which doesn’t guarantee happiness for everybody, but perhaps it does for that kind of people. So I guess there’s no recipe for all of us. As a good friend once told me (and I think I may have quoted her here before), wouldn’t it be extremely boring if everything went according to plan?
Still, I find that you need to take some decisions about where you’d like your life to go. They do give you something to hold on to and hope for. I guess we all need that, more or less. The question may be one of degree.
If you’re more the decision kind of person, then you may also need a lot of patience. Having those plans and having made those decisions will in fact buy you much more patience than if you struggled with some adverse fate hoping for what?
With the need for patience comes the need to watch that tone of voice. It’s beginning to sound like following your dreams is quite a tiresome affair. And sometimes yes, it feels like it. But it’s good to remember that the time will pass anyway, and that you will get tired and frustrated anyway, if not because you’re diligently working towards some goals, then because you’re not, and you know you’re not and feel you should be! So never give up on a dream just because it takes time and energy. the time will pass anyway. And making steps in the right direction will give you energy right at those times when you think you’ve been investing too much energy you didn’t have.
Well, and I don’t have a quote for this next bit of received wisdom, but I’d say if you need coffee in your life, make sure you appreciate it. There’s lots of pleasure it can give you.
And if you like tea, well, enjoy your tea! In the company of a friend or two, preferably 🙂
Right now, however, I can identify more with the exhaustion and coffee addiction illustrated by this mug:
Good luck with your projects, and take time to notice, if not how the grass grows, then at least the seasons 😉
