From September 2007 to May 2008 British actor and writer Stephen Fry traveled through the US in a London black cab (well, he parted with it in Alaska).
He made a travel documentary out of it, which aired on BBC One at the end of 2008. He also wrote a book. Both the filmed and the written travelogues are called Stephen Fry in America.
It’s a most peculiar travelogue in that Stephen Fry doesn’t choose only major tourist attractions but attempts, in fact, to show what makes the spirit of America. And to make that apparent he pieces together a social geography of the US, where social groups and mavericks come together to shape the present and the future of this land.
I enjoyed it immensely, and I hope you will, too. You can find both travelogues on Amazon, and if you want to read a summary of sorts of the travel documentary, see my articles on Wizzley:
